Dr. Adam Avitan
DVM, B.SC
Veterinarian and Owner
Dr. Adam started working in the Veterinary industry in 2011, but his passion for animals started much earlier. His connection with animals sparked at a young age and he was often found trying to treat injured worms in his front yard. His early interest in Veterinary care has led to a lifelong journey of helping animals.
Born in Vancouver, and raised in Richmond, meant the opportunities for Veterinary studies require travel as there are no Vet schools found in BC. In 2006 he left the University of Calgary to study a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. Once completed he then pursued Veterinary Medicine at the University of Melbourne, one of the top ranked Veterinary schools in the world. While in Australia, Dr. Adam was able to treat a variety of animals including dogs, cats, cattle, sheep, horses, birds, and wonderful creatures like koalas, kangaroos, and deadly snakes! Spending 10 years away from Richmond, he decided to return home in 2015 to practice locally and give back to the community he grew up in.
Practice In Medicine
Since returning, Dr. Adam started working at a large, multi-doctor practice with a very busy caseload. He then transitioned to work at a specialty emergency hospital in Vancouver and gained invaluable experiences working alongside renowned specialists, and dealing with critical, life or death situations. During his time working in emergency, he also worked at various local clinics throughout the greater Vancouver area.
Little Paws Clinic
In 2018, he bought Little Paws Animal Clinic with the intent to bring his blend of skills from both the general practice, emergency and specialty hospitals. His goal is simple: to provide the highest quality, practical and compassionate care to his patients. Dr. Adam took over the practice from Dr. Martinez who was the previous owner of Little Paws, who passed his knowledge of rabbit medicine onto Dr. Adam.
Dr. Adam sees a wide variety of animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, rats, guinea pigs, ferrets and more. His main interests are pain management, senior pet care, and managing complex diseases. When he is not at work, he can be found playing with his cat Lira, snowboarding, and trying to find the best desserts around.
